About Nathan McCauley
I’ve been involved in the local music scene in the Coromandel since I first moved here in the mid '80s.
I started off playing a bit of harmonica and vocals with some other musos.
This formed into a rock/punk act that performed to raise funds to help combat the threat of mining on the Coromandel in the late 1980s.
Back then, the local hotels didn’t host live music. So the gigs were held in local community halls.
During the summer months, these gigs provided entertainment for the influx of holiday makers who come to enjoy the great beaches and scenery.
These dances where legendary!!
During this time I got into sound engineering in a studio that used to be situated at the top of the peninsula, called “Aerial Railway”.
At the end of the '80s, I also joined up with some other local musicians and formed a couple of other bands.
Still doing halls we performed at fund raisers and as a support act for visiting acts.
I did sound and stage management duties on the three 3-day music festivals that were staged in Colville in the late 1980’s.
Over time bands have desolved and new ones formed. Somehow I’m still jamming on.
I play electric bass and a little bit of keyboards in two local bands.
These days I compose and record myself and others using my portable recording set up.
